Dear Colonel Pullen;

I am writing to request permission to charge equipment to 
the above-referenced contract.  Funds will be rebudgeted from
the computer maintenance category of the budget to cover the
cost of this equipment.

We are proposing MIPS as sole source vendor, because at this time their
NCD Xwindow terminal is the only terminal that meets the requirements
of the Computer Science Department's networking environment.

NCD/MIPS does not offer a lease plan at this time.  The Computer
Science Department feels that this equipment will be technically
viable for the next four to five years.  This equipment fits
easily into the existing hardware maintenance facility making
it cost effective over long term use.  

The cost of the equipment is as follows:

The University believes this equipment to be necessary to conduct the
research under the above-referenced contract.  The University is
financially unable to purchase the equipment and requests approval
to use existing funds for acquisition.
